July is the month when European weather is most reliable and European hotels are most expensive. Across the ten cities below, daytime highs run from 69°F (20.6°C) in Copenhagen to 83°F (28.5°C) in Venice, and rain is spread very unevenly: Lisbon averages fewer than one rainy day in the month, Kraków almost fifteen. The light is the real gift. Every city here gets at least 11 hours of sunshine a day in our dataset, so a plan that ends with a sunset walk or a late terrace works everywhere.
That is why Porto leads. It is the only city in Europe with a perfect July weather score, 10 out of 10: highs of 76°F (24.5°C), 3.1 rainy days and 13.4 hours of sunshine a day. Its Snack Score, 7.9, sits below Kraków's 8.5, and July's weather makes up the difference. The month score is 40% weather and 60% Snack Score, so Kraków's rain and the hedges on our London and Paris pages leave them just behind.

The ranking
Score = 40% this month’s weather + 60% the Snack Score, plus a market bonus in November and December for cities with a Christmas market. No more than 3 cities from one region. How we score
Porto is first because July gives it a perfect weather score: highs of 76°F (24.5°C), 3.1 rainy days and 13.4 hours of sunshine a day, tied with Lisbon for the most on this list. That lifts a Snack Score of 7.9 past Kraków's 8.5. The plan is a 3.1-mile (5 km) walk from Livraria Lello down to the Ribeira, and in summer the Clérigos Tower stays open to 11 p.m. Metro line E reaches Trindade in 27 minutes for $2.60 (£1.90; €2.30). The catch for British travelers: no Heathrow nonstop. Flights leave from Gatwick, Manchester, Edinburgh and Stansted.
Kraków has the second-highest Snack Score in Europe, 8.5, and the cheapest one-night trip here, $50 (£37). What holds it at #2 is rain: 14.6 rainy days in July, the most on the list, under highs of 77°F (24.8°C). Keep the Rynek Underground museum below the Main Square, $11.50 (£8.60; PLN 45), as the wet-weather swap. Wawel's castle routes are closed on Mondays and sell a limited number of tickets, so buy the day before. From the US, LOT flies nonstop from Chicago O'Hare, and from Newark in season.
London scores 10 for sights and 10 after dark, and July suits it: highs of 73°F (22.9°C), 11.4 hours of sunshine a day and a weather score of 9.0. Two things keep it third. A Westminster room was $186 (£139) on our June Friday, so its one-night cost of $129 (£97) is the highest on this list, and our page hedges, because one night buys a single corridor from the Abbey to the West End. Go on a Friday: the Abbey closes to sightseers at 1 p.m. on Saturdays. From the US you need a UK ETA first, $27 (£20).
Paris has the strongest editors' marks on the list, 10 for sights and 10 for food, and a July weather score of 9.2 on highs of 78°F (25.4°C). It ranks fourth because the route is long, 8.5 miles (13.7 km) from Notre-Dame to Montmartre, and a June room in the 11th was $162 (£121). Summer helps the evening: the Eiffel Tower sparkles on the hour until 1 a.m., and the Louvre stays open to 9 p.m. on Fridays. Visitors from outside the European Economic Area pay $36 (£27; €32) there. Eurostar takes 136 minutes from St Pancras.
Prague's July is warm, 79°F (26°C) at the daytime high, with 11.6 rainy days, and its weather score of 8.8 trails Paris and London. Its strength is the line: castle, Malá Strana, Charles Bridge and the Old Town on a 3-mile (4.8 km) route, with the castle buildings open until 5 p.m. from April to October. The catches are the crowd, since the bridge is full from mid-morning, and the price: a Prague 1 room was $125 (£94) on our June Friday, double January's. From the US only JFK has a nonstop, in season.
Lisbon is the driest city on the list in July, 0.9 rainy days, and one of the two hottest, at 83°F (28.1°C); the heat costs it weather points. Its Snack Score of 7.7 includes a hedge from our page: Belém and the old town are two halves of one day, and the hills slow every walk. Summer gives you the light, though. São Jorge Castle, $19.10 (£14.30; €17), stays open to 9 p.m. from March to October. Avoid a Monday, when Jerónimos is closed. Eight of the ten US hubs we track fly here nonstop.
Copenhagen is the coolest city on this list, 69°F (20.6°C) at the daytime high, and that is why July suits it: the weather score is 8.5 even with 13.1 rainy days. The metro reaches Kongens Nytorv in 14 minutes, and Tivoli is in its summer season, which in 2027 runs from March 30 to September 26. Price is the drag. A central room was $269 (£202) on our June Friday, the highest summer rate of these ten, and the one-night cost of $117 (£88) is second only to London's.
Vienna's July high of 81°F (27.1°C) costs it a little, and its weather score of 8.5 matches Copenhagen's. What it does better is price. A room in the central districts was $78 (£58) on our June Friday, almost the same as January's $71 (£53), so summer barely costs more here. The Railjet takes 15 minutes from the airport to Hauptbahnhof. Book a Kunsthistorisches Museum time slot, required since September 8, 2026, for $25 (£18.50; €22). The route is long for a central plan, 8 miles (12.9 km), because Schönbrunn is a U4 ride out.
Venice has one of the most compact plans on the site, 2.5 miles (4 km) on foot and by vaporetto, and a sights score of 9. July is hot here: a high of 83°F (28.5°C) and a low of 69°F (20.5°C), the warmest night on this list. The Doge's Palace, $39 (£29; €35), stays open to 7 p.m. from April to October, so take it late in the day. A June room was $168 (£126). In 2027 the access fee for day-trippers runs on set days up to August 15; overnight guests were exempt in 2026 if they requested it.
Bath ties Florence on 7.92 for July and takes the last place because southern Europe already has its three. Its July weather score is 8.7, on highs of 70°F (21.1°C). It is the easiest trip on the list from London: GWR reaches Bath Spa from Paddington in 73 minutes, and the plan is a 1.6-mile (2.6 km) walk. Book the Roman Baths and a 7 p.m. Thermae Bath Spa session, $59 (£44), which admits only those 16 and over. A room at The Z Hotel Bath was $160 (£120) on our June Friday, double January's.
Each city's July score is 40% its weather for the month and 60% its Snack Score, the one-night score every city on the site carries. The weather part comes from our Open-Meteo dataset for 2016 to 2025: full marks for temperature need a daytime high between 63°F and 79°F (17°C and 26°C), and rainy days and sunshine hours make up the rest. No more than three cities from one region can make a month's list. That rule decides the last place: Florence ties Bath on 7.92 and has the far higher Snack Score, 8.6, but Porto, Lisbon and Venice had already filled southern Europe's three places. Every weight and threshold is in how we score cities.
Where July is too hot, and where it is just right
The temperature formula takes a point off for every degree Celsius above 26, and in July that pushes the inland south out. Rome's July weather score is 6.4 and Madrid's 5.9, so Rome, with one of the best Snack Scores in Europe at 8.1, finishes 24th of 26 European cities this month, and Madrid 25th. Florence's 6.9 is the reason it needed a tie-break at all. If you want Italy or Spain in July, the coast scores better than the inland capitals: Porto, Lisbon and Venice all score 8 or more.
The north is the opposite story. Copenhagen, Bath and London all have July highs of 73°F or below, and Stockholm, at 8.8 for weather, misses the ten only on its Snack Score of 7.1. Long evenings change the plans too. The Clérigos Tower in Porto keeps late summer hours to 11 p.m., the Eiffel Tower sparkles until 1 a.m. in summer against midnight in winter, and the Doge's Palace and São Jorge Castle both stay open to 7 p.m. or later through October.
What a July night costs
We price every city on two Fridays, January 15 and June 11, 2027. We have no July price, so read the June figure as the summer guide, not a quote. On those dates the summer jump varies a lot. Copenhagen went from $104 (£78) to $269 (£202) for a central double, Venice from $71 (£53) to $168 (£126) and Prague from $62 (£46) to $125 (£94). Vienna barely moved, $71 (£53) to $78 (£58), and neither did Kraków, $61 (£46) to $77 (£58). The cards show the one-night cost: half that average room, the airport ride both ways and a day ticket. It runs from $50 (£37) in Kraków to $129 (£97) in London. Our cheap city breaks list ranks on that cost alone.
One July charge is specific to Venice. The city's access fee for day-trippers returns in 2027 on 72 days from March 26 to August 15, between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. In 2026 it cost $5.60 (£4.20; €5) paid at least four days ahead and $11.20 (£8.40; €10) after that, and guests in accommodation that charges the tourist tax were exempt if they requested it. The city says the 2027 rules will be published by December 31, 2026.
If you want something else from July
Dry days: Lisbon, with 0.9 rainy days in July against Porto's 3.1, if you can live with 83°F (28.1°C) and steep cobbles.
The cheapest night: Kraków, with rooms at $77 (£58) on our June Friday and a 17-minute airport train for $5.10 (£3.80; PLN 20).
A big evening: London, with a West End show from the TKTS booth, or Paris, with the Louvre open to 9 p.m. on Fridays.
Cool air: Copenhagen, the only city here with a July high under 70°F, if the budget stretches.
From the US, London has nonstops from all ten hubs we track, Copenhagen from nine and Lisbon from eight. Porto has three, New York JFK, Newark and Boston, and Prague one, JFK, in season. From the UK, Prague, Vienna, Venice, Kraków and Copenhagen have flights from Heathrow, Gatwick, Manchester, Edinburgh and Stansted.
For the eight Schengen cities, expect the EU's Entry/Exit System, in force since April 10, 2026: first-time visitors give fingerprints and a photo at the border. ETIAS is not running yet and has no start date; it will cost $22 (£16.80; €20). US citizens visiting London or Bath need a UK ETA, $27 (£20). On a one-night trip, a carry-on bag and an early flight protect the plan. Our guide to planning a 24-hour trip covers timing.
